Product Description

On August 18 1966, D Company engaged Vietnamese forces in a rubber plantation near Long Tan. Despite the fact that the D Company patrol comprised only 108 men, and faced perhaps as many as 2,500 enemy soldiers, the Australians triumphed in torrential rain. On August 18 1969, a cross was raised at Long Tan, and this day was to become known as Vietnam Veterans Day.

Representing the rubber plantation, the teeming rain and the Long Tan Cross, the haunting design found on this Australian legal tender coin is a masterwork of numismatic design.
