Product Description

The first Gulf War took place in the early 1990s, when tensions rose following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. Including Australian service personnel, coalition forces overwhelmed Iraqi defences.

Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein remained in power after the defeat, however, and tensions continued to simmer. Those tensions escalated dramatically over the issue of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ in 2003, and the second Gulf War began. The Iraq military was, once again, quickly defeated, and Saddam Hussein’s repressive government was overthrown.

Part of the Royal Australian Mint’s official Australia at War Series, this unique, one-year-only Australian legal tender type will no doubt be sought after as a poignant military commemorative. It will be just as passionately pursued by serious decimal collectors. Why? Because, not to be issued for circulation and never to be found in change, the 2016 50c Gulf Wars Cu-Ni Unc is a must-have for a complete collection! Tremendous value-for-money at the Official Issue Price of just $10, each strictly Uncirculated coin is set within an official RAM pack.
