Product Description

Initially attempting to remain neutral, Greece entered the war after Italy invaded in late 1940. Mussolini’s forces suffered several setbacks in what became known as the Greco-Italian War, however, and Germany was forced to step in. This was largely because Greece was strategically crucial to the Germans. If Greece became a British ally, the Germans would have been denied access to the Romanian oilfields, and to ensure that this did not happen, the Nazis invaded on 6 April 1941. In little more than three weeks, the Axis forces had swept aside all resistance, achieving a decisive victory and capturing thousands of Allied servicemen.

Created in league with the Australian War Memorial, the Royal Australian Mint’s 2015 50c Greece Cu-Ni Unc is a unique, one-year-only type – and a must-have for all decimal collectors. Not to be issued for circulation and never to be found in change, this is the only way you can secure this coin – and the only way you can keep your collection complete!
