Acknowledging that the courage of Australia’s civilians is as deserving of recognition as the courage so regularly shown by our Armed Forces, this unique 40mm coin honours Australia’s highest civilian award from bravery.
Crafted from 1oz of 99.9% silver, and finished in 24-carat gold, the obverse of this Australian legal tender type portrays the George Cross – the Commonwealth’s original award for civilian gallantry. Established in 1975 to replace the George Cross, the Cross of Valour is depicted on the reverse.
Also distinguished by the names of the Australian recipients of each award, the 2015 $5 Australian Bravery Gold-Plated Silver FrUnc is taken from a tiny mintage of 5,000.
