Product Description

The Santa Maria or Santa Maria de La Immaculada Concepcion, was the largest of three ships used by Columbus on his first voyage (1492 - 1493). Columbus, under the patronage of Queen Isabella of Spain, was searching for a quicker trade route to the East Indies. Instead, he discovered the islands just off the coast of America, now known as the Bahamas. It was not until his third exploration that he landed on the mainland. Although Columbus was not the first explorer to reach the Americas from Europe; the voyages of Columbus marked a milestone. Columbus opened up the New World to further exploration and colonisation.

The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of these coins.
